As Toyota says, the 2020 Toyota Tacoma is “built for the endless weekend.” Decked out in playful colors like VooDoo Blue, Barcelona Red Metallic, and Super White, this is one truck that’s going to earn you more than a few friends. Drive Taylor invites you to learn more about the trim levels of the 2020 Toyota Tacoma. It’s a brief review serving Ohio and Pennsylvania with a wealth of information about this far too often overlooked superstar pickup truck.
The base model nets a 2.7-Liter DOHC 16-Valve 4-Cylinder engine that’s good for a comfortable, smooth 159 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque. A 6-speed Electronically Controlled automatic transmission is paired with this engine for smoother, electronically controlled performance. The SR is also serving Ohio and Pennsylvania with other affordable perks, such as fabric-trimmed seats that really give you a feeling of home. A 7-inch touchscreen infotainment platform gives you the basics and even some nice integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. For the money, you can beat the SR among other trim levels. It’s your most affordable Tacoma.
The SR5 gets the same engine as the SR. Thus it has the same 3,000 pound towing capacity, but that’s a nice number for a second tier trim. A plush upgrade that we really appreciate here is the leather-wrapped telescopic steering wheel on the SR5, a touch of luxury in a truck that’s otherwise extremely affordable. You also net a great remote keyless entry system for added convenience. Your SR5 also gets another very important upgrade: an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system that provides a much wider and taller viewing space for all of your technological niceties. As an affordable option, in our review of what are the 2020 Toyota Tacoma trim levels, Drive Taylor is more than happy to recommend the upgrade to an SR5. The touchscreen multimedia system alone is worth the extra bucks.
If you want to roll with the big boys, you’ve got to have a truck that packs some power, and the TRD Sport is your first Tacoma that really makes it possible to grab those high tow and haul ratings. It nets a 3.5-Liter V6 DOHC 24-Valve direct-injection Atkinson-cycle engine that produces 278 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque. The TRD Sport is equipped with the latest in off-road equipment. You’ll get a TRD sport-tuned suspension, Variable-assist power rack-and-pinion steering, and an impressive 6,800 pound maximum towing capacity. An attractive Gray grille with smoked finish and chrome surround gives you more of a blacked out, darker/brighter feel that you expect from off-road vehicles. 17-in. machined alloy wheels look bold and rugged on the TRD Sport, and they’re by far one of our favorite wheel options on this champion. The fabric trimmed seats of the TRD Sport also feature much more control than your other trims. You get 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat and 2-way lumbar support for a fit in your captain’s command center that you will really love. Finally, like other trims, you get Toyota Safety Sense, albeit with a few more advanced features thrown in.
A 5-foot short bed is standard on the Off-road so you’re going to have maximum cabin area to really enjoy your off-road exploits. Gray grille with smoked finish and chrome surround and 16-in. machined contrast alloy wheels make for a truly upscale look on your Off-road. Integrated color-keyed tailgate spoiler and power-sliding rear window with privacy glass are also additions we appreciate about the off-road. The off-road also gets tech and safety amenities that other models don’t. For example, you get Qi-wireless device charging, available leather-trimmed seats as part of a package, and TRD-tuned off-road suspension with Bilstein shocks. It’s a configuration fit for an off-road champion.
Other trims available: Limited, TRD Pro. Leather-trimmed and moonroof equipped Tacoma trims are going to be the Limited and TRD Pro, the top of the line trims. We’d also like to give you an idea of the Toyota Safety Sense lineup that’s manning all trims. You’ll get remarkable safety features like a Pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, Dynamic radar cruise control, and Lane Departure Alert.
